Brow Lift

A brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that can help you achieve a more youthful appearance by reducing horizontal lines and furrows that often create an angry, sad, or tired look. It can be done on its own or combined with other procedures like a facelift or eyelid surgery. In some cases, a brow lift may address concerns that would otherwise require these additional surgeries.

During the procedure, the surgeon lifts the eyebrows and underlying muscles to smooth the forehead, reduce frown lines, and reposition low-set eyebrows. The incision typically starts at ear level, runs across the top of the forehead hidden behind the hairline, and continues down the other side. Once the incision is made, excess tissue is removed, the brow is lifted, and the excess skin is trimmed away. The incision is then closed with sutures or staples. This lift may also slightly tighten the upper eyelids, further enhancing a youthful appearance.

PRE-OPERATIVE CARE

Before surgery, inform your surgeon of any allergies, medical conditions, and all medications you are taking, including both prescription and non-prescription drugs. To reduce the risk of post-operative bleeding, avoid aspirin and any medications containing aspirin for two weeks before surgery. Additionally, you should stop smoking 1-2 months prior to the procedure, as smoking can impact anaesthesia and slow down the healing process. Patients with hypertension should notify their surgeon ahead of time.

POST OPERATIVE CARE

After surgery, your surgeon will typically remove any dressings within 24 hours. Stitches or staples are usually taken out after one week. You may experience some discomfort, which can be managed with pain medication. While some patients only feel a sense of tightness, others may experience mild pain. Infection is rare, but antibiotics will be provided to reduce the risk. Swelling and bruising around the eyes may occur but generally fade within two weeks.

For the first month, avoid strenuous activities like jogging, heavy lifting, or anything that could raise your blood pressure. Additionally, limit exposure to heat and sun for several months following surgery, avoiding spas and saunas.

RISKS AND COMPLICATIONS

Knowing what complications may arise, as well as what can prevent them, will help patients enjoy a positive experience.
As with any surgical procedure, a brow lift comes with its own set of risks and potential complications.

Infection |
Excessive bleeding |
Adverse reaction to anaesthesia |
Need for additional procedures |
Scarring |
Numbness or loss of sensation

It's crucial to follow your surgeon's post-operative instructions carefully to minimise the risk of complications and ensure the best possible outcome.
